Statement of Faith

At Firm Foundations, we believe that a clear statement of faith serves three essential purposes. First, it grounds us in the ultimate authority—Scripture itself—so that everything we teach, write, and do flows from God’s Word rather than cultural trends or personal preference. Second, it provides clarity about what we believe and why, so there’s no ambiguity about the biblical framework we’re operating from. And third, it fosters community by inviting you into a shared understanding of truth, so that whether you’re reading an article, exploring a resource, or joining our conversation, you know exactly where we stand. This statement reflects our deepest convictions about God, His Word, and His redemptive work in the world.

I. The Scriptures

We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of the sixty-six canonical books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. Scripture is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16–17) and therefore completely trustworthy in all that it affirms. It is the supreme and final authority for all matters of faith and practice. We hold to the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture, meaning that every word, in the original manuscripts, was superintended by the Holy Spirit so that the human authors wrote exactly what God intended. The Bible is sufficient for all that believers need to know God, understand salvation, and live in faithful obedience.

II. God

We believe in one living and true God, eternal in His being, perfect in His attributes, infinite in His power, and sovereign over all creation. God eternally exists as three co-equal, co-eternal Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—one God in three Persons, the Holy Trinity. God is holy, righteous, loving, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and He governs the universe according to His perfect will and eternal purposes. All things exist for His glory, and His glory is the ultimate end of all creation and redemption.

III. Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the second Person of the Holy Trinity, who took on human flesh through the miraculous virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23). He is fully God and fully man, without sin, and is the only mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5). He lived a perfectly obedient life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, died as a substitutionary atonement for our sins, was buried, and bodily rose from the dead on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). He ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He intercedes for His people. He will return personally, visibly, and bodily to consummate His Kingdom and judge the living and the dead.

IV. The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). He regenerates sinners, indwells all who believe in Christ at the moment of salvation, seals believers for the day of redemption, and empowers them for holy living and fruitful service. The Spirit illuminates Scripture, guides believers into truth, produces the fruit of Christlikeness (Galatians 5:22–23), and sovereignly distributes spiritual gifts for the edification of the body of Christ.

V. Man

We believe that God created man in His own image—male and female—distinct from all other creation, endowed with moral responsibility and capacity for relationship with God (Genesis 1:26–27). Through the historical fall of Adam, sin entered the world and all humanity became spiritually dead, separated from God, and subject to His righteous judgment (Romans 5:12). Every person is born with a sinful nature, incapable of saving themselves or pleasing God apart from His grace. The fall affects every dimension of human existence—mind, will, emotions, and body. Humanity is therefore entirely dependent upon God’s redeeming grace for reconciliation with Him.

VI. Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gracious, sovereign act of God by which sinners are redeemed through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, by grace alone, to the glory of God alone. Salvation includes regeneration (new birth), justification (being declared righteous before God), adoption (being made children of God), sanctification (being made progressively holy), and glorification (being made perfectly whole in eternity). Salvation is not earned by human merit, works, or ritual, but is freely given to all who repent of sin and trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Those whom God has truly saved are kept by His power and will persevere in faith until the end.

VII. The Church

We believe in the universal Church—the body of Christ—consisting of all who have been redeemed by His blood across all ages and nations. The local church is a visible expression of the body of Christ, a community of baptized believers covenanted together for worship, the preaching of the Word, the observance of the ordinances (baptism and the Lord’s Supper), mutual edification, and the proclamation of the Gospel to the world. Christ is the head of the Church, and Scripture is its governing authority. We believe in the priesthood of all believers, the importance of church membership, and the necessity of biblical church leadership.

VIII. Last Things

We believe in the personal, visible, and bodily return of Jesus Christ to the earth, an event that will bring human history as we know it to its God-ordained conclusion. At His return, the dead will be resurrected—the righteous to eternal life in the presence of God, and the unrighteous to eternal condemnation (John 5:28–29). We believe in a literal heaven and a literal hell. The Kingdom of God will be fully and finally consummated, and God will dwell with His redeemed people forever in a new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1–5). Until that day, the Church is called to live in readiness, faithfulness, and urgent Gospel proclamation.

Position Statements

On Marriage and Human Sexuality

We believe that marriage is a covenant instituted by God, defined in Scripture as the exclusive union of one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–5). Sexual intimacy is a gift from God designed to be expressed solely within the covenant of marriage between a husband and wife. We affirm that God created human beings as male and female, and that this biological and complementary distinction is good, purposeful, and not subject to personal redefinition. We hold these convictions with love and compassion for all people, while remaining committed to the authority of Scripture on matters of sexuality and identity.

On the Sanctity of Human Life

We believe that every human being is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27) and therefore possesses inherent dignity and worth from conception to natural death. We affirm the sanctity of unborn human life and oppose abortion except in cases where the life of the mother is at genuine risk. We also oppose euthanasia and any policy that treats human life as expendable or less than sacred. We are committed to advocating for the vulnerable and affirming the value of every person, at every stage of life, as a reflection of the God who creates and sustains all life.

On Religious Liberty

We believe that God alone is Lord of the conscience, and that every person has the right to seek God, hold religious convictions, and practice faith according to the dictates of their conscience—free from government compulsion or coercion. We affirm the historic Baptist principle of religious liberty and the separation of church and state, not as a means of excluding faith from public life, but as a protection of the freedom to believe, worship, and live according to biblical convictions without government interference.
